2012 Roster Preview Part Three: The Untouchables

March 6, 2012

“There won’t be any big [free agent] splash. Our pitching is our gold standard. We have to make sure we take care of that commodity first.”

– Brian Sabean

Brian De Palma/Brian Sabean present…

From a script by David Mamet/Bruce Bochy…

Al Capone/Tim Lincecum – Sure, he’s a scofflaw and a bit of a mercenary. But damn if he isn’t good at what he does.

Elliot Ness/Matt Cain – While you were gazing into those steely baby blues, he just struck you out/confiscated your moonshine.

Jim Malone/Ryan Vogelsong – What’s rarer? A clean cop in Prohibition-era Chicago, or a 34-year old, arm-injured journeyman who suddenly posts a 132 ERA+?

Agent George Stone/Madison Bumgarner – The young gun, prized for his pinpoint accuracy. He’s so good, in fact, we’re more than willing to forgive this and this.

Agent Oscar Wallace/Barry Zito – And…this guy.

Vogelsong takes the cake as my favorite entry

I thought the Zito Gray Goose image would win your heart.
